Nepal Earthquake Reconstruction

The tremendous infrastructure damage sustained in Nepal due to 2015 earthquakes is slowly but surely being restored and repaired by the Nepalease people.

Majority of the funds that were collected by British Columbia’s Nepalese Community through NHCFBC were used to provide support in this effort. These funds have been targeted towards providing quality education to students with new school buildings as well as establishment of libraries and computer lab facilities in some of the schools.

  • March 2017 Shree Mahendra Lila Higher Secondary School – Gorkha, Nepal

Reconstruction of Shree Mahendra Lila Higher Secondary School – construction completed. Partnership with NRNA, London Cross Cultural Center, Newa Guthi and Nepalease Society of Calgary. NHCF contributed $16,500 and total Project cost was $173,000. More than 500 students are studying in the school from Grade 1-12.

  • May 2017 Shree Dewalingeshwor Lower Secondary school, Orang, Dolakha

The foundation has provided financial support for more than 350 students of Shree Dewalingeshwor Lower Secondary school at the remote area of Orang Village, Dolakha district of Nepal in providing school supplies. The school supplies were neatly packaged in backpacks and distributed to students.

  • July 2017 Shree Madanedanda Secondary School at Dhuwankot, Gorkha

Rebuild Computer lab and library – Project completed. NHCF funded $9,000. More than 350 students have been studying in the school mostly from the local Kumal and Tamang communities.

  • December 2018 Shree Saraswati Secondary School, Kalyanpur, Morang, Nepal

NHCF provided total funding of CAD20,000 to build new toilets in the school. Project has 100% completed as of December 2020. A new toilet building for the school has benefited all the students, staff and school family; who earlier had no facility in the school and were having to go out to the fields or nearby jungle to relieve themselves.

  • April 2019 Shree Vidhyamandir Higher Seconary School, Baglung, Nepal

Rebuilding of Shree Vidhyamandir Higher Seconary School, Baglung, Nepal has been completed in Partnership with School Management Committee. NHCF funded $38,500. Total project cost was $103,000 and about 1300 students are studying in the school.

  • May 2019 Shree Tribeni Higher Secondary School, Mirkot, Gorkha, Nepal

Rebuild of Computer lab and the computer library of Shree Tribeni Higher Secondary School, Mirkot, Gorkha. Project Completed. NHCF contributed $9,000. About 400 students are studying in the school from grade 1 to +2 levels.

  • August 2019 Shree Basukee Lower Secondary School, Aaruarwang, Gorkha

Rebuilding of Shree Bashukee Lower Secondary School, Aaruarbang, Gorkha, Nepal has been completed. NHCF funded $30,000 in co-ordination with Nepalese Scholars Association of UBC Okanagan Campus, Kelowna. Total project cost is $37,500.

  • July 2020 Shree Prithivi Rupa Higher Secondary School, Rupa, Kaski

A brand new school building was constructed close to the old building (deemed unsafe due to earthquake damage). This project is in partnering with Fishtail Rotary Club and School Management Committee. Out of total estimated cost of $100,000 NHCF’s contribution is $17,500.

  • November 2022 Sungava Building Renovation

Sungava Building, located in Soyambhu, Kathmandu is a safe home dedicated for intellectually challenged girls and females, one of the most vulnerable groups in our society. Those who have no one to care for them, are provided basic food and shelter here. The 2015 earthquake had damaged this home and residents were forced to continue living in an unsafe structure. NHCF in partnership with three other organizations NRNA – Canada, SEVA – Canada and NAFA – Australia has completed this project by forming a consortium to renovate this building with total cost $12,000. NHCF has contributed $3,000 for the construction of this renovation building.
